Luxury Holiday Cottage on Loch Katrine

Old Smiddy is a luxury holiday cottage on Loch Katrine, sitting right on the water’s edge in Stronachlachar within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. The cottage sleeps six across one double and two twin bedrooms, with open plan living areas, white oak flooring and a wood burning stove throughout.

Every stay includes exclusive use of a private hot tub and wood-fired sauna, both positioned to look out over the loch. From most rooms you’ll look straight out over the water toward Ben Lomond, Ben Ledi and Ben Venue on a clear day — a genuinely peaceful setting that’s harder to find this close to Glasgow than you might expect.

Why Loch Katrine?

Nestled in the quiet folds of the Trossachs, Loch Katrine is not just a body of water—it is poetry made real. Its mirror-still surface reflects not only the surrounding pine-strewn hills and roaming red deer, but also the timeless words of Sir Walter Scott, whose epic Lady of the Lake was inspired by these very shores. A beautifully situated cottage for an idyllic Scottish getaway break nestled amongst snowcapped mountains (we went in February) right by the Loch. You can cosy up with a good book by the roaring log burner. A lovely little tearoom is a short walk away. Right from the doorstep you feel you have the freedom to roam on beautiful walks.

We stayed at the old smiddy cottage September 22, absolutely beautiful cottage, perfect getaway with amazing views, cottage stunning. More than adequate comforts. Remote but not totally isolated. The pier cafe does an amazing breakfast and so friendly. Just loved loved it here. Went for a walk and picked some beautiful flowers to send out in the loch for my son who I lost in 2018 and my partners father who we also sadly lost. Could not believe the beautiful rainbow we witnessed shortly after doing this .

We had a wonderfully peaceful time here. Fantastic location, a well equipped cottage and helpful hosts. Thoroughly recommend.

The Old Smiddy Cottage’s location is perfect, waking up to the beautiful view of Loch Katrine, and the hills surrounding it is a great way to start your day. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, it has everything you need for your time away. The beds are great, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the best view from a shower I’ve ever experienced. The brand new hot tub and sauna are a fantastic addition, you could spend hours just sitting looking out at the loch. We had a great time, and would highly recommend booking this cottage.

We are delighted to present to you and our guests, as of September 2025, something that has been in planning for a long time – a NEW wood-fired sauna and hot tub! For some time we have deliberated over the how we can provide our guests with the pinnacle of relaxation and luxury – that is a sauna and hot tub – whilst absorbing the breathtaking views of Loch Katrine.

This hot tub and sauna combo not only offer the ambiance of being wood-fired, but as the hot tub is refilled with fresh water as necessary, we avoid the need for harsh chemicals! Enjoy!
